Terminal Oxidation Cleaning Practical Techniques

Terminal oxidation is a common cause of increased contact resistance and signal attenuation. For mild oxidation, it is recommended to use fine sandpaper of 1500 grit or higher to polish the metal surface of the terminal in one direction, followed by wiping off residual oxides with anhydrous ethanol. For thicker oxidation layers, a dedicated metal contact cleaner can be used for immersion cleaning, taking care to avoid solvent penetration into the insulation layer. For gold-plated/silver-plated terminals, it is advisable to use a soft-bristle brush combined with a mild acidic cleaning solution (such as 5% citric acid solution); after cleaning, rinse immediately with deionized water and dry thoroughly. Before operation, ensure power is disconnected and wear anti-static gloves to prevent secondary contamination. For precision connectors, ultrasonic cleaning equipment combined with neutral cleaning agents is recommended for deep cleaning. Cleaning parameters should be controlled within 40kHz frequency and 50°C water temperature to avoid damaging the terminal plating.
